Old Glory Lodge participates
in "pilot" IL CHIP event with
other lodges of the temple

Old Glory Lodge was one of the first lodges in the area to participate in the new IL CHIP (Child Identification Program) sponsored by the Grand Lodge of Illinois. Joining the members from the other lodges and Eastern Star chapter that meet in Westchester Temple for the July 30 event were W.M. Joe Godlewski, Tom and Gerry Klemm, Rene and Illuminada Abarro and Clarence and Susan Casson. Purpose of this event was to help the volunteers perfect their skills at conducting this program. Additional, similar events will be scheduled in the future.

Our lodge will also participate in a major IL CHIP event on September 30 that is being sponsored by the Fire Department in La Grange Highlands.

Old Glory Lodge conducts 90th annual
Flag Day presentation at the LaGrange
Illinois Masonic Children's Home

Old Glory Lodge, carrying on a tradition that started in 1919, made its annual presentation of a flag to the Illinois Masonic Children's Home in LaGrange in June. (The lodge also also again donated a flag to the new Masonic Children's Home in Murphysboro and the presentation was made on our behalf by Murphysboro Lodge No. 498.) In LaGrange, W. Bro. Ed Downs made the formal presentation of the flag. This was followed by picnic lunch for members and families, guests and residents of the home which was prepared by our very experienced and efficient lodge volunteers.

Old Glory's Tom Coons Student
Incentive Awards Program off to a
good start; plans set for coming year

A total of five $250 cash awards to students from area elementary and middle schools for their achievements during the 2008-09 school year. The students (from Westchester Middle, Westchester Intermediate and St. Matthew School in Glendale Heights) were selected to receive these incentive awards by the faculties of those school. These schools, and others, are now being contacted for participation in this program next year. It is the plan of the lodge to continue and expand this program in the years ahead.

Thanks to a bequest from our late Past Master, W. Bro. Tom Coons, our lodge has established a special charitable fund in his name and the major project for this fund is this program that provides cash incentive rewards for achievement by children in their schools. The concept for this student incentive awards program was conceived by another Past Master of the lodge, the late W. Bro. John Connolly. Chairman for the program is R.W. Bro. Clarence Casson.

Updates for Lodge
Events on the Calendar

Here are additional details about lodge activities for the next few months.

* Brethren, ladies and friends are invited to join us for an outstanding buffet
dinner and evening of harness racing at Maywood Park in Melrose Park
on Thursday, August 31 at 6:30 pm

* Our Annual Food Drive takes place during the months of October and
November to provide assistance to families in the Westchester area. Cash
donations as well as non-perishable food items are accepted. Families in
the area will receive food through the Westchester food pantry at both
Thanksgiving and Christmas. Please be generous in helping us make the
holidays more enjoyable for our less fortunate neighbors.

* Our annual Past Master/50 Year Member Night is scheduled for
November 17, 2009 at Westchester Masonic Temple. All of our friends
and families are invited to join us for a dinner at 6:30 pm and the formal
ceremonies immediately afterwards in the lodge hall. Special recognition
will be given to our brethren who are celebrating "milestone" anniversaries
   during the year. (
Please see list below and if you are planning to attend
please let us know in advance.

Special note to our out-of-town brethren

We are aware that many of our members live some distance from our temple and that it is impossible to attend our meetings on a regular basis. However, these members are a very important part of Old Glory Lodge No. 141. We make every effort to keep them informed of our activities and welcome any communications -- by mail or by phone -- that we receive from them. We hope that, with this Home Page and new e-mail technology, they will stay in touch with us and become active (at least in spirit and interest) members of our lodge.

ALSO, WE WANT TO STAY IN TOUCH. It it essential that you notify the Secretary as soon as possible if you move or change your address. Unless we have a current mailing address we cannot stay in touch with you about the activities and news of your lodge. In addition, in the event of illness or death, it is important to have your family members notify the lodge.
